CLIENT
MEDIA FM is the biggest media group of Smolensky region. The holding company broadcasts 11 radio stations, such as Europa Plus, Russkoye Radio, DFM, AvtoRadio and so on. The total audience number is 500 000 people.
TASK
— to add online stations to the broadcasting; to increase the audience of the holding company

— to get the analytics to track radio stations' listener statistics

— to determine listener statistics for categories like region, time, gender and age


SOLUTION
— to develop an Android app to listen to the radio and internet stations online

— to personalize users through registration via telephone number, to add social media binding— to give authorized users the privileges of saving favourite stations and lack of advertising

— to integrate an analytics system in the app and cover user scripts with triggers


At the stage of developing the design it was important to make the app not just functional but also user-friendly. We created day and night color themes of the interface to make it easy to use the app at any time and in any place. You can work, rest, do sports and stay tuned!
Administrative panel for managing radio stations and genres
An administrative panel was created for managing and sorting stations by cities and genres. Thus, the client has got the capability of controlling the list and accessibility of radio stations with no need of posting the app in Google Play over and over again.

We placed all backend infrastructure on Heroku platform. It allowed us to reduce the time on DevOps to several hours and gave us the possibility of scaling in case of increased load as a default feature.
FAVOURITE STATIONS ARE ATTACHED TO USER'S PROFILE AND AVAILABLE ON ALL THE CONNECTED DEVICES.
Having connected Google Analytics to the app, we managed to get data about users' preferences. That way we found out that males, aged 20-25 years old, would rather listen to DFM than to Europa Plus or that prime time on all the radio stations is from 7 a.m. till 11 a.m.
RESULTS
Over a period of three months we developed and posted an Android app, added over 100 internet stations to the broadcasting of the holding company.

A month later daily audience of the app reached 1200 users and continues to grow.

Within the next six months it's planned to get 20% of listeners through the mobile app, to launch an iOS-version and add about 100 more stations.
